Vacuum casting has become the standard for serious jewellery production. Here is how a vacuum casting machine improves quality, yield and productivity compared with open casting.
What a vacuum casting machine does
A vacuum casting machine melts metal and pours it into an investment flask under vacuum. Removing air from both the melt and the mould cavity lets molten gold or silver fill every detail without trapping gas.
Lower porosity and cleaner castings
The biggest quality gain is the elimination of gas porosity. In open casting, trapped air causes pinholes and weak spots. Under vacuum, gas is drawn out, producing dense, sound castings with smooth surfaces that need less finishing.
Reduced metal loss
Because melting and pouring happen in a controlled, low-oxygen environment, oxidation and burn-off drop sharply. Metal loss typically falls the lowest per cycle — a direct saving on every gram of precious metal.
Finer detail and thinner sections
Vacuum-assisted filling reaches paper-thin walls and intricate features that open casting cannot. This lets manufacturers cast lighter, more detailed designs with confidence.
